INSAN Iraqi Society
INSAN is an Iraqi non governmental organization aiming at relieving the suffering of the Iraqi population through humanitarian aid and capacity building.
INSAN is dedicated to build the capacity of members of the Civil Society in Iraq in order to provide increased efficient services in a difficult and unsecured environment.
INSAN has launched a training program in 2008 to support local organizations to better work in a conflict environment, bringing attention to the fact that members of the Civil Society can act as significant actors of peace and change.
The Canadian Catholic Organization for Development and Peace (CCODP)
CCODP is one of Canada's leading non-government international development agencies. It was founded in 1967 by the Canadian Catholic Bishops Conference, laity and clergy with a view to promoting sustainable development through education and solidarity programs in Canada, and to supporting development programs in the Global South. To this end, CCODP has overseen the implementation of more than half a billion dollars worth of small and medium scale emergency relief and development projects throughout the world.
In Iraq, CCODP has been particularly present over the past four years. The mainstay of CCODP support in Iraq has been on the development of a program of assistance to the population and Iraqi civil society, with a special focus on peace-building and capacity-building. Together with a wide variety of regional and local partners, CCODP has trained Iraqi peace-builders, Iraqi community associations, and professionals to develop their capacities within the organisations and communities they serve and strengthen networks, with a view to enhancing participation in reconstruction of a peaceful and democratic Iraq. Other programs have focused on humanitarian assistance to the internally displaced, the reduction of infant malnutrition, the provision of emergency support for tuberculosis centres in Iraq and of relief services in the form of food, disease prevention and support to the education sector.
The United States Institute of Peace (USIP)
The United States Institute of Peace is an independent, nonpartisan, national institution established and funded by Congress. Its goals are to help:
